Snake Creek Gap

Six guys from TEAM BC went down to Dalton,Georgia Saturday Jan. 11th 2010.  The event is called the Snake Creek Gap which is hosted by SORBA Georgia.  A non-profit group that builds and maintains the mountain bike trails in GA.  The course covers 6 mountain climbs and has two distance options of 34 and 17 miles.  Right at 350 riders showed up to the first Gap Race, and Team BC made quite the impression.

In the overall rankings Team BC scored a 2nd and 3rd crushing the course with times of 3 hrs by team pro Craig Evans and  Junior Elite rider Tanner Hurst with 3 hrs 9 min.  Putting their results in front of 350 gave these two a good feeling for the start of the 2011 season.  This was Craig's and Tanners first race on their new Specialized EPIC's from Biker's Choice. Both of them felt the bikes were the right tool for the job.  Craig said " I can now say the S-Works is by far the fastest bike on the planet - almost a PR in January at the Snake. 3:00:02 ranked 2nd in the money class!" Craig had just picked his bike up on Friday, the day before Snake.  Matt Schupp turned in a 3:29 and  Tim Baker had a 3:37 putting those two easily in the top 10% overall and in the top of their age group fields.  Also contending for Team BC were Michael Edens and Billy Wood.

There will be two more Snake Gap Races. One in February and one in March.  Its a fun event for any mountain biker to try.  The pace of the competition was quite broad with people contending the 17 mile distance in as far out as 4 hours.  If you want to try real mountains for mountain biking this is a great opportunity.  Jump in at http://snake.nwgasorba.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=46&Itemid=64
