XTERRA Lock 4 Blast
Participate in the longest running XTERRA event on the Mainland. Ranked in the top 10 for best run XTERRA's in the country. The course features a beautiful Island venue for the start and finish. Participate either solo or as relay.
Distances 880 yd swim, 12.5 mile bike, and a 4.2 mile run.
The swim is a triangle course out in the beautiful Old Hickory lake. Surrounded by EMT's and canoes, swimmers can spread out comfortably for the exciting mass start. Water temp will hover around 70 deg. Xterra Wetsuit guidelines are; Amateurs can use wetsuits below 72deg, and Pros are allowed to wear wetsuits below 68 deg. Official temp will be announced 30min. before start.
Following the swim, its time to hit one of the most fun Mountain bike trails in Tennessee. A true mountain bike course, riders will be challenged with a 6 mile single track loop. Two laps make 12.5 miles of Mountain Biking that is full of twists, turns, rollers, switchbacks, Pre-riding the course is a must. The trail will be marked with blue arrows, and you should ride to the right side of these arrows . The trail will begin on the island at the transition exit and ride the island shoreline to the land bridge. There it will go right onto the east side trails which will be rolling single track for approvimately 5 miles. The single track trail will exit out of the woods and head back out towards the island where you will continue to the right side shoreline towards and around transition where you will begin lap 2. Riders will receive a black stripe on their number plate as they pass around transition to signify they have completed their first lap. Then its back out for lap two. You'll do the same lap, just this time, when you come back into the island, you enter into transition. Make sure to dismount before you enter. Tag your partner, or put on your running shoes
For the run, the course is a 2.1 mile loop that is about 50/50 grass and trail. One big climb per lap, with water stations every half mile. Similar to the bike course, you'll exit out of transition and run the shore line from the island over the land bridge and onto the mainland. The course will be marked in red XTERRA arrows. Once on the mainland you'll run up the hill on the left side of the road, and then enter into the woods on the left across from the gravel parking area. Then you'll get to run for about a 1.25 miles on some really cool single track. This will bring you back to the land bridge that will take you back to transition. Remember to run to the right side of the red arrows. On the run through transition, you'll run just to the high side of transition and start lap 2. Do the second lap the same, except the finish will be about 100 yards before the transition area, where we will have plenty of food and drinks for the finish as we watch and cheer to the last finisher.
